The Popper is a topwater popper - one of the most exciting ways to catch bass. The cupped face creates a satisfying "pop" and splash on the surface that mimics a wounded baitfish or feeding activity, drawing bass up from below for explosive strikes you can see coming.
Handcrafted by J&R Lures - a grandfather-grandson team handpainting, pouring, and assembling every lure by hand in small batches.
Pro Tips
- Use a pop-pause cadence: give it a sharp twitch to create a splash, then let it sit still for 2-3 seconds. The pause is critical - that's when bass commit. Vary your rhythm until you find what they want that day.
- Most common beginner mistake: setting the hook when you SEE the strike. Wait until you FEEL the weight of the fish! Topwater strikes look explosive but bass often miss on the first swirl.
- Best in shallower water with some wind on the surface. Dead calm conditions make bass more cautious with topwater. Early morning and evening produce the best surface action.
- Use monofilament line for topwater - it floats and helps keep the bait on the surface. The color on top is for you - bass see the white belly from below.
